Summary: This blog explores what could happen when an AI chatbot is enhanced with DOCX editing capabilities. By merging a powerful AI chatbot with Apryse technology, developers can deliver an enriched and interactive app for a truly collaborative document experience.
Innovation is what we do at Apryse! We constantly strive to deliver a better document experience through our industry-leading products.
That innovation starts with wondering “How can we make this better?” and this blog series dives in head first to answer this and other questions, exploring what it would be like if popular apps such as an AI chatbot were combined with Apryse tech.
AI chatbots are extremely popular today with an estimated one billion people using them regularly. They’re great at answering trivia questions, drafting documents, solving coding issues, or even helping calculate measurements for building that new shed, and so much more.
But one of the issues I’ve found is that always having to switch between the chatbot and whatever other app I’m using at the time is annoying. So, let’s imagine merging your favorite AI chatbot with the power of DOCX Editor. There would be no more bouncing between apps, copying and pasting text, and then reformatting the text. This would be a truly collaborative environment.
The AI chatbot would be fully integrated with DOCX Editor, allowing it to be fully aware of what’s happening with the document a user is working on, including:
When the user opens the AI chatbot document editor app, on one side they'll see the familiar DOCX editing interface, complete with formatting, styling, and collaboration tools. On the other side, or in a sidebar, would be the AI chatbot.
The user would interact with the AI just like they do normally with any task, giving it commands like:
The AI would carry out the command but instead of providing a new version of the text to be copied and pasted to the main document, it could act directly in the document to apply the edit, provide a suggestion, or even transform the entire document using Apryse’s DOCX Editor.
Figure 1: An AI chatbot merged with DOCX Editor.
Users, regardless of what they’re working on, don’t want to waste time toggling between screens and apps, copy and pasting, and looking up information. By enabling an AI chatbot to work directly in a document, the user sees benefits such as:
Real-time Feedback: As the user types, the AI provides suggestions for sentence structures, rephrasing paragraphs, expanding on ideas, and more.
Contextual Editing and Proofreading: The AI acts as an intelligent editor, understanding the context and tone of the document and can suggest improvements for clarity, grammar, and style.
Data Integration: The user can ask the AI to integrate data from an external source and then summarize the information, extract relevant data, use the data to draft parts of the document, and more.
Intelligent Document Creation: The AI can create a specific template or style of document based on a detailed prompt such as "a marketing brief for a new product launch."
Interactive Brainstorming: A user can brainstorm with the AI before starting to write to help structure their thoughts and create an outline, headings, and more directly in the document.
Personalized Writing Coach: The AI can critique the user’s writing and provide constructive feedback.
Version Control and Change Tracking: Beyond traditional version control, an AI-powered version could summarize the changes between versions and highlight critical revisions.
Delivering an AI chatbot powered DOCX editor to your users means:
Increased Time in App: Handling DOCX and PDF files allows users to work completely within one app.
Secure Data Management: Delivering a secure, client-side app with AI-enhanced editing tools keeps data safe as it never leaves the user’s system.
Improved Efficiency: Streamlining tasks such as generating and editing content, and research allows users to create high-quality documents in a fraction of the time.
Great question! Let’s look at two industries that could benefit greatly from an app like this.
Legal: Comparing Contracts
A legal analyst uploads two versions of a partnership agreement. The AI compares the documents and identifies any differences in clauses, highlights legal risks, and suggests alternate wording. It then summarizes the document in plain language for a non-legal stakeholder.
Healthcare: Creating a Structured Report from a Clinical Intake Form
A healthcare worker uploads a scanned patient intake form. The AI assesses the form for patient history, allergies, and symptoms. It then drafts a structured report in DOCX, highlighting any important notes for review.
Developing an app like the one we’ve just looked at requires DOCX Editor, which is part of the Apryse Web SDK’s Office Editing Suite.
An AI chatbot combined with a DOCX editor means a user is never writing alone, they always have an AI partner to guide them, leading to improved efficiency, quality, and creativity. This reimagined app wouldn’t just change how we write, it would create an enriched document creation experience.
If you’re interested in adding DOCX Editor into your application, AI chatbot powered or not, check out our documentation for more details.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll continue to roll out our concepts of other popular apps reimagined with Apryse tech. We’d also love to hear about an app you’d like to see reimagined, so let us know on social. If you’d like to know more about how our document SDKs can support your next project, contact us.
