Today, we are very excited to introduce version 8.0.1 of PDFTron's Android PDF SDK, including new annotation filter options, improvements to FreeText with rich content, and much more.

This blog post dives into the major changes. For the full list, please head over to our changelog.

Annotation Filter Options

The annotation list is designed to help users quickly identify and navigate to annotations in a document. The latest release further improved this feature by adding annotation filter options for annotation type, author, review status, and/or color. Filtered annotations will be hidden from view, enabling users to efficiently organize and edit their annotations, especially when there are many!

Improvements to FreeText with Rich Content

Many UX improvements have been added to FreeText annotations with rich content (Rich Text), like brand new support for subscript and superscript characters. Additionally, Rich Text now supports vector appearances that enhance the annotations' visual quality and provide users with a seamless viewing experience.

Better Developer Experience

We've also worked hard on enriching our sample base with many frequent business use cases, so customers can hit the ground running with their development and integration using the PDFTron SDK to create all kinds of interesting and useful applications. Here are some of these new samples:

  • Barcode Scanner: Generate, scan, stamp, and view barcodes in the PDFTron Android document Viewer.
  • Document Scanner with OCR: Scan documents with the camera and convert to text searchable and selectable PDFs.
  • CAD Viewer: View CAD files using the PDFTron Android SDK and WebViewer Server.
  • PDFTron React and React Native PDF Viewer: With this expo project, see how to create a PDF viewer app for both web and mobile with a single codebase between React and React Native.

And more...

Check out the live demo for all of the above features here: showcase.

We hope you are as excited as we are about these new additions! We have many more new features planned for the coming weeks and months.

So stay tuned... And in the meantime, don't hesitate to contact us with any questions, feedback, or suggestions for what we should build next.
