The Apryse Web SDK has matured over the years to become a Swiss army knife for developers seeking to work smarter, reduce their reliance on fragmented technology, and enhance the performance and usability of their applications. Since its launch in 2014, WebViewer has expanded beyond its initial functionality—viewing, editing, and annotating PDFs—to support multiple file formats, making it a best-in-class viewer across web, mobile, and desktop platforms.
In Q2 2023, we introduced the DOCX Editor, enabling native document editing within web applications. This gave customers greater autonomy over how they interact with documents. Since its debut, we’ve continuously innovated on its capabilities to include advanced formatting and revision controls.
Building on that innovation, we are now further expanding our document capabilities by introducing the Apryse Spreadsheet Editor. This add-on to our Web SDK offers seamless viewing of XLSX files, preserving the structure and integrity of template-based, compliance-intensive, and formula-driven content. Featuring an Excel-like interface, files render and export just as they would in Excel, ensuring document fidelity. Following the launch of XLSX viewing, editing capabilities will be available next quarter, allowing users to integrate full spreadsheet functionality directly into their applications.
The Spreadsheet Editor add-on for the Apryse Web SDK ensures that standard content, formatting, and formulas are preserved while allowing users to navigate via a grid and across multiple sheets, view formulas within cells, and maintain the XLSX format without unintended modifications.
This offering combines the innovative technology from our 2024 acquisition of LEADTOOLS with our user-friendly and highly customizable modular UI, resulting in enhanced document support for various use cases. As an extension of the Web SDK, the Spreadsheet Editor offers WCAG 2.1 AA compliance and adheres to regional accessibility standards.
By keeping spreadsheet access and review capabilities in-house, organizations can eliminate the need to upload and download files through third-party systems, reducing workflow interruptions and ensuring operations move at the pace the business demands. In contrast to external solutions like Microsoft Excel, which require cloud-based sharing or additional integrations, the Apryse Spreadsheet Editor provides a self-contained, secure environment for viewing and analyzing data.
Launching in Summer 2025, Spreadsheet Editor: Edit Mode will introduce full editing functionality, expanding in-app document processing capabilities. Key features will include:
Streamline multi-format document handling – Reduce the complexity of managing different file formats by using a single, integrated vendor.
Ensure consistency with Excel-like UX – Provide users with an intuitive experience that aligns with the Excel-like user experience while maintaining content integrity.
Eliminate external dependencies – Reduce reliance on external platforms like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets by embedding spreadsheet functionality directly into your applications.
Maintain data security & integrity – Keep sensitive business records, audit logs, and proposals secure without the risk of unauthorized edits.
With the Apryse Spreadsheet Editor: View Mode, businesses can integrate powerful in-house spreadsheet capabilities while reducing complexity, improving security, and maintaining a seamless user experience. Stay tuned for our Summer 2025 release as we expand editing functionalities to further enhance document processing within your applications.
